All Foils’ story begins in the late 1970’s in Cleveland, Ohio. Two friends were working for a foil distributor who was willing to provide products for buyers who wanted quantities lower than what mills were willing to sell. As the distributor began to undergo major changes, the business was eventually shutdown and the two friends soon found themselves in search of their next opportunity. Combining their years of light-gauge metal distribution and manufacturing experience, the two entrepreneurs recognized a need in the marketplace and All Foils was born in October 1980.
History
The Birth of All Foils
In the early years, All Foils had several fortunate things in their favor. The core management group had all been in light-gauge metal sales, knew the customer base well and had very good relationships with customers from the previous association. Additionally, there was a pool of talented, trained and motivated employees happy who were to make a contribution. These early contributors played a significant role in the early success of All Foils and helped establish a corporate personality and culture that is still reflected in the current organization.
Our First Steps
In 1981, All Foils identified a growing need in the market and added copper, stainless steel, nickel and other specialty light-gauge metals to its product offering. In the same year, they also acquired their first pieces of equipment. First, was a drum welded by a friend from a local Cleveland fire station that included many wooden parts and a converted clothes dryer motor. Second, was a shear that broke down too many times, quickly forcing the purchase of a new one.
Poised for Success
By 1983, all the elements for success were in place for the young start-up and in 1984 All Foils moved across town and into a 10,000 sq. ft. office and manufacturing facility. With an abundance of new, unused space, the team purchased its first piece of sheeting equipment and sold its first sheeted product.
The Next Level
Business was booming and by 1989 the two founders had more than doubled the revenue that they had earned prior to All Foils. By the fall of 1990, the two friends began to transition from hands-on employees to upper management and advisors. After carefully selecting a board of directors, the two entrepreneurs and newly appointed board realized an opportunity for growth and purchased their first coating line. With a focus on color foil production, All Foils was one of only a few early suppliers of colored foils.
As business thrived, All Foils quickly outgrew its manufacturing facility. With aggressive growth plans in mind, the team constructed a brand new 150,000 sq. ft. facility, complete with new state-of-the-art coating and cleaning lines. In 2021, All Foils continued expansion by adding acid etching capabilities to its already impressive list of services. Now customers could have light-gauge metals cleaned, coated, printed, laminated, slit, sheeted and more – all under one roof – making All Foils the leading foil converter and distributor in the U.S.
